I am relatively new to the role of school nursing and commenced as part of the trial of the reintroduction of nurses back into schools in 2016. This trial has resulted in the permanent placement of nurses across many schools in Tasmania. In high schools, our focus is around;
The promotion of good health and well-being;
Positive parenting for teenagers with babies;
Sexual health and relationships;
Addictions and risk behaviours;
Body image, physical activity and nutrition; and
We can assist the school with recommendations on how to provide care for students with complex medical conditions.
Prior to my time in schools, I worked in the Royal Hobart Hospital’s Emergency Department for 10 years which has given me a very broad knowledge base. Outside of work, I live with my husband and three small boys who keep me very busy and I spend a lot of time chasing around after them and all their activities.
I work Tuesday and Wednesday’s each week and alternate Monday’s. I can be contacted directly or through school staff.
