About Us

Montrose Bay High School is a Year 7-12 co-educational high school. Montrose Bay High School is located 15 kilometres north of central Hobart, in southern Tasmania. The school occupies a scenic site overlooking the Derwent River. With the magnificent kunanyi / Mount Wellington as a backdrop, the school has beautifully landscaped grounds. The school draws students from the northern suburbs of Hobart. Our feeder primary schools are Austins Ferry Primary School, Windermere Primary School, Glenorchy Primary School, Rosetta Primary School, Goodwood Primary School, and Collinsvale Primary School.

Recent renovations have seen a major upgrade of the school facilities with state-of-the-art workshops, a catering kitchen and studio facilities. We are very fortunate at Montrose Bay High School in that we have an energetic and enthusiastic staff who are highly committed to the students. Our school priorities align with the priorities of the Department for Children, Education and Young People: Reading and Engagement.

Your child is an important person to us. We prioritise high quality teaching and learning, engagement and wellbeing. To support this, we have a focus on an orderly learning environment to build connection and responsibility. We provide differentiated learning programs to support students requiring adjustment and extension. This allows our students to show growth from wherever they are in their learning journey. We foster student agency by facilitating opportunities for students to show respect and courage.

Montrose Bay High School cares about people and believes that every child deserves the equity to be challenged and supported in a safe environment so that they can be life-long learners.

History

Our main campus of Montrose Bay High School stands on one of the most picturesque sites in Australia. A decision was made early in 2009 by the School Association and staff of Rosetta and Claremont High Schools to begin an amalgamation process into 2010 to ensure students could have access to improved learning spaces, including a new Performing Arts Centre, science laboratories and art studios.
